Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study is to determine whether distal anchor in ankle taping affect functional performance test. Distal anchor should be applied with less tension compared to proximal anchor due to discomfort in metatarsal with weight bearing. However, heel lock can hold transverse support not to release while exercising. Distal anchor may not need to be applied to prevent discomfort in meta tarsal.

METHOD: Twelve collegiate basketball athletes who did not have injuries for 3 months participated in this study. They received 4 functional performance tests(figure-of-8 hop test, side hop test, 6m cross over test, square hop test) with and without distal anchor. They were also asked whether they felt discomfort in feet due to ankle taping. Independent t test was used to compare average of each performance test results.

RESULT: There were no significant differences between with distal anchor and without distal anchor group in all 4 functional performance tests (P>.05). Two participants complained of discomfort in lateral metatarsal with distal anchor.
CONCLUSION: Distal anchor¡¯s existence did not affect functional performance tests significantly. Distal anchor could cause discomfort in metatarsal with weight bearing.
